Trainer
OBJECTIVES
To provide for the health and well-being of players by administering first aid during matches
RESPONSIBILITIES
(a) Before each season
Availability: Ensure you’re able to be present for the duration of the match you’re rostered on for. If you’re unable to be present for the duration of the match, you need to find a suitably qualified replacement or contact the team manager as soon as possible. If there’s no trainer present, the match can’t proceed
Accreditations: Activate and upload your accreditations to EverProof as soon as possible and before you commence as trainer at a match. If you’ve not uploaded your accreditations to EverProof before a match, you can’t be a trainer at the match. To understand your required accreditations, click here
Child safety: Be aware of, understand and follow the child safety policies and procedures. To access the child safety policies and procedures, click here
Code of conduct: Provide the child safe code of conduct signed by you to your team manager before round 1
First aid kit: Obtain from our trainer coordinator the trainer first aid kit. It should be fully stocked
Player medical history: Obtain from the team manager the existing medical conditions of players, such as asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, anaphylaxis. Trainers are not to strap, tape or massage players
(b) Before each match
Trainer first aid kit: Ensure the trainer first aid kit is appropriately stocked. For trainer first aid kit contents, click here. If you need supplies, contact our trainer coordinator
Ice: Ensure you bring 2-3 ice bags to each match using the zip-lock plastic bags in the trainer first aid kit. If it’s a home match, you can get ice from the freezer in the first aid room at the Clarke Shields Pavilion. If it’s an away match, please bring ice with you from home
Equipment: Ensure you’re familiar with the location of essential emergency equipment. If it’s a home match, the defibrillator is located in the first aid room at the Clarke Shields Pavilion
Gear: Obtain and wear the white trainer bib from the team manager and wear enclosed shoes and comfortable clothes for running onto the field
Grounds medic: If it’s a home match, ensure you have the contact details of the grounds medic. If it’s an away match, ensure you’re familiar with or have the contact details of the grounds medic or grounds manager
Opposition team: Introduce yourself to the opposition’s trainer
Injury or illness concerns: Carry out a check with players and their families to see if there are any injury or illness concerns and inform the coach
(c) During each match
Administer: Administer first aid treatment or emergency care to ill or injured players as required and adhere to the COVID-19 safety protocols
Communicate: Communicate with players and their families and the coach on the status of injured or ill players as required
Escalate: For any serious injury or illness or injury or illness that may require ongoing care or management, escalate to the grounds medic or grounds manager

(d) After each match
For any serious injury or illness or injury or illness that may require ongoing care or management, including concussion:
Discharge: Ensure the player is discharged into the care of their parent or caregiver and their parent or caregiver understands ongoing care or management may be required. If a hospital is recommended, click here
Document: Obtain details of the injury or illness. If possible, use the injury report form. For the injury report form, click here. If possible, take photos
Report: E-mail the completed injury report form to our trainer coordinator by Sunday night
Follow up: Follow up with the player’s parent or caregiver by phone, e-mail or SMS by Sunday night to check on progress or updates. The team manager will have the contact details. Notify our trainer coordinator and the team manager about the player’s future availability
Other: For any injury that may be caused by the facility or the grounds (as well as the above), immediately notify the injury to the grounds manager. For any injury that may be caused intentionally by another player from their team or the opposition’s team (as well as the above), immediately notify the incident to the team manager (who will either communicate the incident with the opposition’s team manager or record the incident in the match report)
RELATIONSHIPS
Injured or ill players: To administer first aid
Coach: To communicate on the status of injured or ill players
Team manager: To be rostered on for matches, to obtain the white trainer bib and first aid kit on match day, to obtain existing medical condition of players and to report injuries as required
Parents or guardians of injured or ill players: To communicate on the status of injured or ill players
Grounds medic: To escalate any serious injury or illness or injury or illness that may require ongoing care or management
Grounds manager: To report injuries as required
ACCOUNTABILITIES
Trainer coordinator: To obtain supplies to replenish the trainer first aid kit, to report injuries as required, to provide ideas, comments and feedback

Must be at least 16 years old or of sufficient age to be competent to perform the task (in the opinion of the Field Umpire)
