Goal umpire
Objectives
To record goals and behinds scored by each team during the match
Responsibilities
(a) Before each season
Accreditations: Activate and upload your accreditations to EverProof as soon as possible and before you commence as a volunteer in a match role. If you’ve not uploaded your accreditations to EverProof before a match, you can’t be a volunteer in a match role. To understand your required accreditations, click here
Child safety: Be aware of, understand and follow the child safety policies and procedures. To access the child safety policies and procedures, click here
Code of conduct: Provide the child safe code of conduct signed by you to your team manager before round 1
(b) Before each match
Introduce yourself to the Field Umpire, Timekeeper and opposition’s Goal Umpire
Obtain the scorecard and pen and flags and white coat from the Team Manager
(c) During each match
Determine whether a goal or behind has been scored
After being given the “all clear” or “touched all clear” by the Field Umpire, use the flags to signal that a goal or behind has been scored
Record goals and behinds scored by each team on the scorecard
Reconcile the scorecard with the opposition’s Goal Umpire’s scorecard after each quarter
Ensure the area between and behind the goals is kept clear of people and obstacles
Must not coach or communicate with a player or official, except during quarter breaks
Must not enter the field or dispute the Field Umpire’s decision
May be overruled by the Field Umpire, except if the Goal Umpire is appointed by the league
(d) After each match
Reconcile the scorecard with the Timekeeper and opposition’s Goal Umpire’s scorecard
If there’s no discrepancy, sign the scorecard, the Timekeeper’s scorecard and the opposition’s Goal Umpire’s scorecard
If there’s a discrepancy, the Timekeeper’s scorecard is deemed correct
Submit completed scorecard to the Team Manager
Relationships
Opposition’s goal umpire: To reconcile scorecards after each quarter
Timekeeper: To reconcile scorecards after each match
Field umpire: To await “all clear” or “touched all clear” before using the flags to signal that a goal or behind has been scored
Accountabilities
Team Manager: To be rostered on for matches, to obtain the scorecard and pen and flags and white coat and submit the completed scorecard on match day
League by-laws
Must be at least 16 years old or of sufficient age to be competent to perform the task (in the opinion of the Field Umpire)
If in breach of the by-laws, may be ordered from the field by the Field Umpire, and the Team Manager must replace the Goal Umpire with another person
