Registrations for the 2025 season open on the 9 December for the South Melbourne Districts Junior Football club (SMDJFC)
South Melbourne Districts Junior Football Club welcomes all girls and boys, regardless of whether they’ve played 100 matches or never touched a footy in their life.
All the info you need to understand the process and register players is outlined below or refer to our handy FAQs.
Parents & Guardians - Once you have completed your child’s player registration, please ensure you also register as a Volunteer for 2025.
This needs to be completed annually is FREE and EASY and all you need is your current Working with Childrens Check (WWCC).

REGISTRATION FEES
The fees for season 2025 are outlined below:
EARLYBIRD Registration - $330
Standard - $380
6-match season - $250*
Lower fees apply to our youngest age groups (U8-10 Girls and U8 Mixed/Boys)
NOTE: All registrations are charged a separate $58 SMJFL administration charge at the time of registration
A 10% discount is available for all siblings after the initial registration
Members are also welcome to make a voluntary monetary contribution to the Club
You will need to pay the registration fee in full to participate in junior footy in season 2025.
Our club accepts Get Active Kids vouchers, and encourages our participants who are pension and healthcare card holders to apply online for their $200 voucher online. The code issued to you by the Victorian Government initiative can be used when completing your SMDJFC registration.
*Note: A 6-match season registration is for players in U13+ teams only. Players may play the 6 matches consecutively or intermittently throughout the 2025 season, however if they wish to continue to play more than 6 games they will need to upgrade to a full membership.
REGISTERING
Early Bird Registrations for the 2025 Season for SMDJFC open on 9 December 2024.
EXISTING - If you have played junior footy with SMDJFC in prior years – please use the e-mail address that you used previously to register the player on PlayHQ.
NEW - If you are new to junior footy at SMDJFC and have not previously played for another club you need to register on PlayHQ.
You are required to provide a Proof of Age document (eg. Birth Certificate/passport/vaccination certificate) to confirm the DOB prior to the registration being accepted. Copies of these documents must be emailed to the registrar
This is a league requirement: we cannot accept players into the Club without sighting proof of age documentation.
TRANSFERS - If you have previously played for another club in Australia, you’ll need to tell that club you intend to transfer to SMDJFC. Then email the registrar with the player’s name, birth date, previous club and league previously played for. We will review the request and, may request further information.
Once your previous club has provided clearance, and we have approved the request, you’ll receive an e-mail with a unique link to the registration form which is pre-populated with your details.
Note: SMDJFC can approve, refuse or cancel a player’s registration in our absolute discretion and for any reason.
PLAY HQ
All registrations for junior footy are made through Play HQ.
Please ensure all parents and emergency contact details are up to date and included in your registration to ensure that the club can communicate with all concerned parties regarding your child including access to Team app for communications.
If you need to change your email address associated with your existing PlayHQ account please contact 1800 PLAY AFL or email clubhelp@afl.com.au. We unfortunately do not have access to assist with this at club level.
AGE GROUPS
To be eligible to register with South Melbourne Districts Junior Football Club, a player must be 7 years old before 30 April in the calendar year of their first season.
If you child is born after 30 April 2018, please consider joining our SMD Auskick program.

If you have any queries regarding registration or concerns that will impact your childs’ ability to enjoy playing footy then, please contact the registrar to discuss.
Some players may wish to play in an age group other than what is determined above however this is at the clubs discretion for example:
If a player wishes to play up an age group, this should be requested as part of the registration process along with appropriate justification. eg. to play with school cohort
If a player wishes to play in the age group below for example due to medical condition, they will need to be granted an exemption from the league – please contact the registrar for further information in relation to this process.
FOOTY GEAR
A numbered jersey will be provided to each player by the Club for the season.
This must be returned to us at the end of the season to avoid incurring a $80 late fee or to delay approval of registration in the following season.
Footy gear you will need to play matches:
Red club shorts only (for all teams)
Red and white club socks
Footy boots
Mouthguard (required for all training sessions and matches)
The shorts, socks and other optional club gear you can only be bought from our SMDJFC Online shop
VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENT
As SMDJFC is a community football club, we rely on our passionate, selfless volunteers to deliver the best program and enjoyable football experience for our children. We have roles to opportunities to suit all levels of parent and guardian skill and enthusiasm.
Season volunteer roles include Coaches, Team Managers, Trainers and every team requires Matchday volunteers for roles including umpires, runner, timekeeper, water carrier. We require all these roles to be filled by registered volunteers to be able to play games.
To perform matchday volunteer roles all families need to register parents/guardians as volunteers in PlayHQ
There is no cost to register as a volunteer just complete these two simple steps:
