Girls Footy
South Melbourne Districts aims to provide girls with a safe, supportive and inclusive environment which develops, promotes and encourages participation in (and enjoyment of) Australian Rules Football.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve played 100 matches or never touched a footy in your life - all skill levels are welcome. Our coaches focus on developing confidence as well as skill acquisition and game sense.
We’re part of the South Metro Junior Football League and target to field girls teams in the U10s, U12s, U14s and U16s age group league competition. Matches are scheduled on Sundays, commencing 19/04/2020, and girls pre-season squad training and season training is scheduled on Wednesday evenings, commencing 26/02/2020 for U14s and U16s and 04/03/2020 for U10s and U12s. All teams are allocated at least one AFL accredited coach and all team roles are required to have a WWCC. For U10s and U12s, the girls play a modified rules match which allows them to develop their skills. As they get older, there’s tackling and games are played on full sized grounds.
As well as fielding teams in the league competition, South Melbourne Districts also operates an Auskick program on Saturday mornings for kids aged 5-12 years old, where girls can participate in mixed groups or separate girls-only junior (kinder to grade 1) and senior (grade 2+) groups. From time to time, South Melbourne Districts also runs girl-only skills-based footy clinics, such as the Spring-into-Skills Girls Footy Academy in October each year.
It’s shaping up to be a bigger and better season 2020 for girls footy at South Melbourne Districts, with over 50 girls already registered to play and compete in the league competition, and spaces filling fast.
The current registration status of the girls teams is as follows:
U10s / 1 team / 24 maximum registrations / Current status: Open
U12s / 1 team / 24 maximum registrations / Current status: Open
U14s / 1 team / 24 maximum registrations / Current status: Wait listing
U16s / 1 team / 30 maximum registrations / Current status: Open

GO BLOODS!
We compete to be the best we can be on and off field, whilst maintaining our core values of teamwork and friendship. We have a positive, inclusive culture that influences families to join and embrace the Bloods.
At the Bloods we retain and grow the participation of our footy families, and are proud to see generations of families play footy with the Bloods. Through a thriving volunteer and sponsorship network we sustain the financial strength of our club.
