For season 2023, your role as coach is to assist junior footy in adhering to the requirements in the AFL Victoria (AFL) as well as coach and develop players to play footy to their full potential and in accordance with the rules and spirit of the game and values of the club.

Coach accreditations

requirements

All junior coaches (U8 – U12) and assistant coaches (U11 & U12) are required to obtain the junior foundation (or level 1) coaching accreditation. All youth coaches (U13+) and assistant coaches (U13+) are required to obtain the youth foundation (or level 1) coaching accreditation.

To complete or renew coaching accreditation, please read below and follow the prompts.

Coaching accreditations must be renewed annually.

Until you’ve met all coach accreditation requirements you’re unable to coach.

Season 2023 renewal

Club coaches please register on Play HQ - the same email address that they used on Coach AFL is required so the two profiles and accreditation details match.

Complete your mandatory AFL VIC Coach Accreditation. https://www.aflvic.com.au/participate/coaching .

Note - All Coaches must update their AFL Vic Profile when doing your accreditation.

Reminder that all Coaches are required to obtain a Working with Children Check or if you have it already, check expiry date. https://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/

Once you’ve successfully completed the renewal process, scroll down to the bottom of the homepage, download your certificate from CoachAFL.


Participation

1 Coach KIT BAG

You’ll be allocated a coach kit bag at the start of the season.  For the contents of the coach kit bag click here. Upon receipt, please ensure all contents are there and clearly marked with the club name and team – for example, “South Melbourne Districts U12 Girls Red”.  Please also ensure the coach kit bag and all contents are promptly returned after the end of the season.  If you have any questions, queries or concerns about the coach kit bag, please contact our coach coordinator.

2 UNIFORM

The team manager will ensure players are wearing the correct jumper, shorts and socks with the league logo.  Beige compression undergarments may be worn underneath shorts, but must not extend below the knee.

Mouthguards must be worn - “no mouthguard, no play”.  Jewellery and boots with sharp studs or aluminium or stainless steel studs must not be worn.

4 MATCH ROLES

The team manager will allocate match roles to player parents in your team based on the match roles.  Not all match roles are relevant to the particular age group your team is playing in.  For example, there’s no water carrier for modified rules matches and no volunteer umpire for older age groups.  If you have any questions, queries or concerns about match roles, please contact our coach coordinator.

2 Team managers

5 CODES OF CONDUCT

Codes of conduct are here.  Please read and understand the codes of conduct and actively live and promote the behaviours outlined in the codes of conducts in all dealings with players, parents and officials. If you have any questions, queries or concerns about the codes of conduct, please contact our coach coordinator or secretary, who’s the nominated child safety officer for junior footy.

Please provide the child safe code of conduct signed by you to your team manager before round 1.
