Codes of Conduct

Whether you’re a player, parent, spectator, staff or volunteer, including umpire or coach, South Melbourne Districts expects you to understand the codes of conduct and support it in creating a culture that reflects the conduct outlined in those codes.

South Melbourne Districts has adopted, or is required to adopt through its association with the Australian Football League (AFL) and South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL), the following codes of conducts as part of its junior footy program:

Season Club Sponsor

  1. Acceptable behaviour code of conduct (players, parents & spectators)

By registering as a member with South Melbourne Districts, players, parents and spectators agree to adhere to the acceptable behaviour code of conduct, support South Melbourne Districts in enforcing that code and authorise South Melbourne Districts to take any necessary disciplinary action, including suspending or banning a player, parent or spectator for repeated or serious breaches of that code.

  2. Child safe code of conduct (staff and volunteers)

By registering as a member with South Melbourne Districts or being engaged as a volunteer or staff by South Melbourne Districts, including employees, contractors and consultants, staff and volunteers agree to adhere to the child safe code of conduct, and acknowledge their responsibility to immediately report any breach of that code to the child safety officer.

  3. Umpire code of conduct (umpires)

Through the annual accreditation process and before commencement of umpiring, umpires are required to understand and abide by the SMJFL umpire code of conduct.

  4. Coach code of conduct (coaches)

Through the annual accreditation process and before commencement of coaching, coaches are required to understand and abide by the AFL coach code of conduct.

South Melbourne Districts is vigilant in enforcing breaches of the codes of conduct and harsh consequences apply for failure to abide by the codes of conduct, including counselling, warnings and, in the case of serious or repeated breaches, suspension or expulsion from the club.

If you feel that there’s been a breach of a code of conduct by a player, parent, spectator, staff or volunteer, including umpire or coach, or have any other questions, queries or concerns, please contact the Club’s nominated Incident Officer or the Secretary.
