South Melbourne District Little Athletics Centre (SMDLAC) is one of the youngest and fastest growing Little Athletics centres in Victoria, dedicated to providing a fun atmosphere for kids (and parents) as they learn the skills of track and field. Organised by local parents for local families, SMDLAC’s home is the new State Athletics Centre, Lakeside Oval in Albert Park.
Who: All children registered with the Centre aged 5 (as of 1 October) to age 15 are welcome to participate. PLEASE NOTE: Due to overwhelming demand we have reached capacity for U6, U7, U8 and U9 age groups and are not taking further registrations for these groups at this time.
Where: Lakeside Oval, Albert Park (Melways 2K F6) – Enter through Gate 1 off Albert Park Drive (MSAC end of Albert Park). For a location and access map see News
When: Competition is usually held on Sunday mornings 9.00 am sharp to 11.40 am, however, on occasions, where a major event is scheduled for Lakeside Stadium, we reschedule competitions to a midweek twilight meeting (5.30pm start). Note that athletes do not have to attend every weekly competition. For all competition dates download and make a note of 2012-13_Season

Activities: Age appropriate track and field. Technique guidance offered free to all athletes. Additional mid-week skill development coaching is available for athletes registered with SMDLAC in age groups from U9 upwards. U6 athletes participate in a one hour program focused on skill development called OnTrack. For further information see: What_we_do_each_week
Cost: $145 per year for the first child (with a reduction for each subsequent child within the same family). The registration fee includes a charge by the State Sport Centres Trust of $35 to allow access to Lakeside Oval. The State Sport Centres Trust will provide a membership card.
Uniform: All registered athletes will be provided with a competition shirt – the competition patch included in your registration pack should be pinned to the front of this shirt. Athletes should wear unbranded black shorts, running shoes, a sun-smart hat and have a water bottle (marked with their name please).
Expectation of Parents: SMDLAC is totally run by volunteers. Parents/guardians of registered athletes are required to assist with at least 5 competitions out of 15 over the season – completing the registration process requires that you nominate the dates where you will assist. You don’t have to be an expert and we’ll teach you the basics and provide guidance.
Note that Little Athletics is not a child-minding facility. A parent/guardian must present at all times during competitions and training. Children left unaccompanied will be unable to compete.
